The mind is not a thing to be filled. It's a fire to be kindled.
Hebe The sun was just beginning to rise when Hebe arrived at the Oasis once again. She had spent the few hours before sunrise wandering just outside the Oasis's reach before the sun's scorching rays could warm the fiery landscape completely. Like the many other times Hebe had made this same trip, nothing was out of the ordinary. In fact, it had been rather peaceful. The few birds that called this dessert home were just beginning to stir and created a sort of soothing lullaby. Perhaps something like a mare would hum to her foal?
Hebe snorted slightly at that. Had she really just made a comparison like that? Her light colored ears flicked back and she tossed her head before continuing on back to the dark shade of a palm tree. The sun's fiery rays were just beginning to peak over the highest of the sand dunes and Hebe could already feel the sun's wrathful heat. It wouldn't take but a couple of hours until the whole desert succumbed to the death-like heat. However, Hebe didn't seem to mind. Instead the cremello mare had begun trotting towards a more vegetated part of the Oasis.
Hebe did not own this Oasis, no, but, in a way, she did. At least she did in her mind. She had been coming to this very Oasis since she'd left her herd and her dam and sire. She'd almost perished in this very desert and now this was the place she felt the most comfort. A strange thing it was, really. However, just because the young mare felt such a deep connection to this land she wasn't opposed to leaving. She was still young and there was still much that her young mind wanted to wrap itself around and take in.
Hebe sighed as she began chewing on a clump of grass. Perhaps she'd find someone in the near future that would share a similar out look on life? How long would that take though?

Adventure is always out there waiting for me A perlino figure raced across the rocky landscapes of Death Desert, long banners and tassels flying freely in the wind. Even though the sun had just peeked over the horizon, Hestia was already up and about. The day was young, and so was she. Her pale coat almost blended into the background, like a shimmering mirage that slipped in and out of the beholder's eyes. Her destination for the day? The Oasis. It was one of her favorite places, and for good reason. It was like a little piece of heaven in the middle of its dry and sandy region. She had actually stumbled across this haven when she was out exploring the desert few weeks ago, and had quickly fell in love with the place. The young mare had never met anyone else in this particular spot, though there were signs of recent travelers who have passed by. A hoofprint here and there. A few leaves that has been bitten off. A broken twig. It was all very simple. Yet interestingly enough, she had not met any other soul here. Until now. Bright eyes caught sight of another figure standing underneath the palm trees, and her pace instinctively picked up. Though she was a friendly soul, she had been told before that she could be too brash and intrusive sometimes. Hence, she slowed her steps when she arrived at the desert spring, keeping a respectful distance from the other equine. "Good morning!" Hestia's voice was bright and cheery. "How's the water today? It should be still pretty cool, since the sun's not too hot yet." As she made her way towards the spring, her entire body danced with energy and enthusiasm. "Have you been here before? The stuff here is really good, right?" Then she was struck with a mental reminder of civility. "Ah, sorry! My name's Hestia! What's yours?"As she awaited for the other mare's reply, the Akhal-Teke femme would dip her head down for a quick sip of water. Ah, the clear, refreshing liquid did well in soothing her throat from the run over here. Then she raised her head back up to hear the answers, if there were any. The mind is not a thing to be filled. It's a fire to be kindled.
Hebe WORD COUNT:360 TAGS: Enchantress Notes:I like yours too! Hebe perked up as she heard the arrival of an equine. Her cremello frame turned slightly so she was facing the new arrival. A mare, much similar to herself, minus perhaps a slightly darker coat and a reddish tinted tassel and banner. There was no doubt in young Hebe's mind that this mare was a decedent of Akhal-Teke linage. That idea thrilled the cremello, causing her nostrils to flare the slightest bit as she drank in the mare's presence.
"Good morning!" "How's the water today? It should be still pretty cool, since the sun's not too hot yet."
"Good morning," Hebe returned the rather friendly greeting. "Indeed. The water should still be cool from the crisp air last night."
Hebe watched the young mare. She was guessing that the mare was around her age, perhaps a year younger or older? From the way she was moving around she was very close to Hebe's very age.
"Have you been here before? The stuff here is really good, right?"
"I've been around here for a long time, yes. This place is a slice of heaven, in my opinion." Hebe pawed the ground slightly, an airy snort blowing through her pink nostrils. This strange mare was not only much like herself, but she also shared a similar opinion? What luck! However, not many others dared make the trek through Death Desert to get here. Did this mare have an ulterior motive?
"Ah, sorry! My name's Hestia! What's yours?"
Hebe let out an airy laugh, her demeanor relaxing much more now. She liked Hestia already. Perhaps it was their many similarities that had already drew in Hebe? "Don't worry! I forget to introduce myself sometimes too," Hebe chuckled once again. "That's a lovely name, Hestia. My name is Hebe. It's a pleasure. Now, what brings you to the Oasis?"
Hebe watched the mare once more, her light blue eyes taking in the mares movements. The cremello femme eased her way down into the shallow part of the Oasis and dipped her muzzle into the clear liquid. Her ears still angled their way towards Hestia, showing that Hebe was still listening and awaiting a reply.

Adventure is always out there waiting for me If there was one thing the young mare was good at, it was asking questions. Back in her home herd, there were more times than naught when she was reprimanded for her unstoppable curiosity. However, that had never deterred Hestia, and as soon as she was old enough, roamed the lands and met others to unleash her torrent of questions. Today, it happened to be upon this pretty cremello. Thankfully, it seemed like the other equine did not mind her energetic greetings. She had responded in the affirmative that the water was still indeed cool, and Hestia bobbed her head. "Awesome!" The positive response only served to encourage the overly enthusiastic Hestia. Not to mention that the day had just started, for goodness' sake. "Great to meet you, Hebe! And cool name! I'm Hest—oh wait, I said that already." She chuckled a little at her little mistake. She had a bright mind...just not all the time. "Why I'm here? Oh, I come here all the time. This is one of my favorite places!" It seemed like the mare barely took time to breathe at all between sentences. Unlike the other mare's more elegant and mannered behavior, Hestia was all over the place and simply overflowing in energy. She continued on with barely a pause in between. "By the way, since you said you've been here for a long time, I guess you're the mystery horse that I've been wondering about! Like, I see signs of another equine all the time, but I never met anyone else while I'm here." Her voice picked it up a notch. "Until today!" Hestia now waded a little into the spring. "Ah..." It was nice and cool, just like what the other said. She stared longingly at the clear water. A swim would be great, but maybe later. "Say, have you explored much of this desert? Even though I've been here lots of times, I don't know what lies behind those sand dunes...and the ones after..." Dark brown eyes grew dreamy as she wondered at all the possibilities that might be out there. She would satisfy that curiosity today, she would! Whether there really was anything to find or discover was another story, but it was the process of wandering that she wanted. Snapped back to reality, Hestia threw a bright smile at Hebe. "I'm going to explore the area over there," here she lifted her head and used her nose to point at a general direction. Then her head swung back to the other femme. "Wanna join me?" The mind is not a thing to be filled. It's a fire to be kindled.
Hebe Hebe watched the other mare with interest. She was such a strange thing. A strange thing indeed. So sweet and naive.. Hebe craned her neck slightly at the thought. Her ears flicked back and forth as she continued her mini observation.
"Awesome!" "Great to meet you, Hebe! And cool name! I'm Hest—oh wait, I said that already."
Hebe chuckled softly. This mare obviously possessed no real threat, and perhaps could even be a friend in the future. Another friend would be nice.. not many people decided to brave the desert. Of course, it wasn't called the Death Desert for no reason. It was a shame though. So many lessons could be learned if you took the time.
"Why I'm here? Oh, I come here all the time. This is one of my favorite places!"
Hebe nodded, rather pleased with her answer. "Ah, yes. It's strange that we hadn't met earlier, but yes, this place is a wonderful sight to behold." Hebe paused and seemed to think for a moment. "The Oasis is.. well, something about it draws you in. It's rather magical really." Hebe pawed the sandy ground with a shy flick of her ears. Had that gotten a little too deep? The Cremello mare always seemed to go overboard when reflecting on the Oasis. Perhaps it was a bad thing, or perhaps it was good. She couldn't decide.
"By the way, since you said you've been here for a long time, I guess you're the mystery horse that I've been wondering about! Like, I see signs of another equine all the time, but I never met anyone else while I'm here." "Until today!"
Hebe nodded thoughtfully. "The chances are high that it was me. Not many equines take the time to venture in the Death Desert long enough to find this gem. I've been here for many moons and I've met few others here in that time span." Hebe reflected wistfully. Her small head turned up slightly as she looked back at the other mare.
She watched Hestia wade into the water with a snort. Swimming here was one of her favorite pastimes as a yearling. However, she'd grown out of it as the days bled on and she blossomed into a young mare. Watching the other mare enter the water suddenly reignited that same fire. Hebe snorted and waded out as well, letting out a large sigh as the water came up over her knees.
"Say, have you explored much of this desert? Even though I've been here lots of times, I don't know what lies behind those sand dunes...and the ones after..."
"Actually.. I don't. It's been a while since I've explored over that way.." Hebe observed the other mare with an interested expression. Perhaps she had a similar passion for learning and travelling?
"I'm going to explore the area over there." "Wanna join me?"
An exploration? With a mare much like herself? Of course that excited the young Cremello. Her nostrils flared and she trotted in place. A fire filled her big blue eyes and she tossed her head. All the new things she could learn. Oh, how exciting!
"Lead the way."

Adventure is always out there waiting for me Hestia craned her head as the other mare chuckled at her behavior. Not many were willing to put up with her excited antics, at least, that was the experience she had in her home herd. It might be because the group she grew up in were all of an older generation, who thought themselves too mature and knowing to put up with such an explosive, though innocent, spirit. To make matters worse, there were no other foals born around her year, so in a way, the filly had thus grown up 'alone' with no relationship with those her age. However, she had sought companionship from those very matrons and elders, and though they did not particularly understand her, they put up with this bouncing ball of energy. They had, at least, encouraged her curiosity, as they would always attempt to answer her seemingly simple questions with profound and wise answers. So in a way, she was exposed to things that were way above her age, though still cloaked underneath her foal-like demeanor. A strange one, indeed. "Aye, though I haven't visited this place recently, so that's probably why I haven't bumped into you sooner!" Hestia nodded in an ironic sage-like manner, as if that was the answer to the world's hardest question. "The Oasis is.. well, something about it draws you in. It's rather magical really."Dark brown eyes glowed at the word 'magical.' "It is magical!" Her sagely nod from before had intensified to a more animated bobbing. "I keep telling my friends that the desert is really pretty, and that there's so much magic to be discovered! But they don't believe me," here her tone dropped down a notch, "They say Death Desert has nothing but death, and should be avoided completely." The mentioned 'friends' were those elders in her home herd, but Hestia did not think to mention that. "But you know, I still come out here anyways." Her impish grin was back, and she proudly flicked her mane to the side. "I haven't died, yet, haven't I? That's what I always tell them when I go back home." She had entered the water, and was delighted to see the other mare join her. On occasions, she would dunk her entire head in the water, then suddenly throw her head back and watch the water spray upwards in a graceful arc. Needless to say, this young soul took great joy in the simple things of life. Exploration, of course, was on the top of the list. "Lead the way."Hestia needed no more encouragement. One of her favorite things, and with a friend? This must be her lucky day! She quickly waded back to the shallow area and up to shore, then shook her wet pelt off. "Let's go!" She made a motion to break out in a run, then caught herself. "Erm, which way?" She trotted over to the edge where the oasis ended and where the desert sands began. Craning her neck in various direction, she lifted her nose and sniffed the air. "North, south, east, west. Take your pick!"
