A

rush of adrenaline coursed through the older mare, a feeling she has not felt for a long, long time. As Platinum responded in affirmative to her unsaid suggestion, Serenade swam towards the cave, taking the lead. As she swam through the cave opening, she could see a light source up ahead. Huh, interesting. But just in time, too, as her lungs could not hold off that much longer.

The pale mare had swam in and up to the surface, and burst through the water. Her lung capacity was not as good as when she was younger, but at least it had carried her thus far. She shook her head, clearing her nose and ears from the water.

"Wow." She breathed, taking in the cave. It was not very big, a small little shelter, but on one end of the wall, the underground stream was running through and down the pool, which eventually made its way to the oasis above them. There was also slivers of sunlight peeking through some cracks on the ceiling, just enough for her to see most of the inside.

Oh, where was her companion? She looked around in the water, searching for a dark shape and hoping the younger mare had also followed her and was okay. If not, she would dive back down to look for her...

[attr="class","whitenight"] ❝ Was that light at the end of the tunnel? How? Platinum followed Everlasting Serenade quickly, hooves kicking downwards. Bubble upon bubble escaped from her mouth and nose. She realised how little air she seemed to be holding all of a sudden. She slowly began to fall behind in her attempt to balance energy output and speed. She tried to speed up, but her legs annoyingly denied her that, trying to make her go slower. Putting on a final burst of speed, Platinum was finally able to push herself out of the water beside Everlasting Serenade. She kept herself afloat there, panting fiercely and gulping in air. The wonderful life-sustaining gas felt like the sweetest nectar flowing down her throat. "Whew, made it...I should really try diving and holding my breath more..." Platinum commented awkwardly as she gasped for breath.

erenade swam over swam over quickly to where the younger mare was. "Are you all right?" She had been a little worried back then when Platinum did not immediately surface right after her, and was just about to dive back down when the latter came sputtering up for air. From the looks of it, she had not swallowed any water or hurt herself. It was a good thing, since it was very easy to accidentally hit a sharp rock or something when one is half-blind underwater.

Everlasting Serenade would wait for a few moments, letting the mare get her breath and bearings back before she spoke to her again. "No worries, dear. You will get to practice when we swim back out." She swam over to where there was a little bank, and clambered on so she was out of the water.

The pale Arab shook her pelt out. Clear eyes gazed around them, taking in the space. It was not very large, more cozy than spacious, but it was a great hideout place if she had ever seen one. She sniffed the ground delicately. Her nose could not pick up any trace of an equine. That must mean they were the first ones to discover this place. "This is a nifty little spot." She commented, and stepped aside so the other mare could join her on solid ground, if she chose to.

Eventually, she managed to get a hold of herself and settled back into a more normal breathing rhythm. The young mare began to swim around the water, squinting around to observe the structure of the cave. How was it formed? She may be able to find the answer by observing the structure. ...Or by presenting herself to be curious enough so Everlasting Serenade would give a possible answer. That as well. After all, Everlasting Serenade seemed to know a lot about this cave, somehow. Everlasting Serenade had already found somewhere out of the water? Wow, Platinum was starting to suspect Everlasting Serenade had known of this place, or even been here, before. She paddled her way towards Everlasting Serenade and joined her on the ground. "How do you think this place formed?" Platinum asked Everlasting Serenade.

he blew out a breath of relief. Thank goodness the other mare was fine. But then again, she was young and strong—they would not go down so easily. Not without a fight, be it enemies or nature. That was one thing she probably missed the most, feeling that insatiable passion for life. But now, a little bit of it was coming back to the matron, and she had Platinum to thank for it.

"How this place was formed?" Everlasting Serenade looked around carefully. The small cave looked like it was hollowed out by water, although the stream now was only a decent size. Perhaps the water flow was much bigger and stronger in the past, and thus carved out this hollow space. But that was just a speculation. "Hmm...how do you think it was formed?" She asked, throwing the question back at the original inquirer.

She would listen to the answer thoughtfully, bobbing her head up and down. "Perhaps." The cave itself was fairly small, and she did not see anything else that caught her attention. "Do you want to explore a bit more or head on back?" It was up to Platinum, as she did not mind either way.

Or perhaps Everlasting Serenade knew and just wanted Platinum to find it out on her own. "Well, if I were to guess...I would say maybe the water had washed-is that the right term?-out this place." Platinum answered honestly. She knew that water could theoretically eat away at rock until a large cavern formed. Supposedly some canyons were formed this way. Everlasting Serenade's response made Platinum relax a little more. Maybe the older mare thought she had a point. How amazing that I seemed to have an answer ready as she asked. Platinum noted to herself thoughtfully. "I'd like to explore more, if you're fine with it." Platinum told Everlasting Serenade. The cave was quite fascinating to the young mare even if there wasn't much to see. She raised her head to sniff at the air again, looking for a peculiar smell.

verlasting Serenade nodded at Platinum's answer. "Sounds reasonable. That's what I think, too." She swung her head as her eyes swept the area once more. It was pretty cool that they shared the same theory. In some ways, they seemed to be kindred spirits.

"Of course, let's explore more." She smiled and let the young mare lead the way. She noticed Platinum sniffing the air, and followed suit. "Hmmm..." She wrinkled her nose. There was a certain scent in the air, and she had an idea of what it was, but she waited to see what the other would do. Was Platinum looking for something?

She poked around a little more. There was even some vegetation growing along the side of the walls. She sniffed them, then after donning them safe to eat, nibbled on some of the tender shoots. As she walked around, however, her hooves gave way a little on the slick rocky ground. Thankfully, she caught herself, but they would have to be careful to avoid the wet and moss-covered ground.

"Easy there," she murmured to herself. The younger female should have no problems with the place, but this older equine would have to be more careful. A fall here in here would be painful, and she would need her legs to be well in order to swim out of the cave later. Assuming Platinum went on ahead, she would follow, albeit slower.

[attr="class","whitenight"] ❝ Hmm... Platinum could smell something vaguely in the air. It smelled like-well, she wasn't sure what it smelled like, exactly. But it smelled a little familiar. Or was it just something similar to the smell of something else? Whatever...The mare began to head in the direction of the smell. She soon realised that it was coming from the walls. As she approached, she saw plants growing there. With a frown, the mare leaned in and carefully nibbled at one of them. She then paused, waiting for a reaction. When she didn't drop dead, she narrowed her eyes even more. A sound from behind her sent Platinum spinning around, in time to see Everlasting Serenade stumble. "Are you okay?!" She gasped, rushing forward. Spotting the patches of moss nearby, Platinum guessed that that was what caused Everlasting Serenade to trip. "Easy there, I can't carry you out." Platinum told Everlasting Serenade jokingly. She decided to stick closer to the older mare as they headed deeper in.

he mare watched curiously when Platinum also nibbled on the plants growing from the walls. At least it did not seem poisonous or deadly, which was good. They would be able to have some things to nibble on if they ever feel a little hungry during this little expedition.

The other mare had rushed over after her misstep. "Thank you, I'm fine. You should watch your step, too." She was right, neither one of them could afford a slip here. She would just have to be more careful, despite the youthful spring in her steps. But she was grateful that the younger mare decided to stick closer to her.

"So, where are you from?" Everlasting Serenade just realized that she knew almost nothing about her. "Do you live close by" She would listen closely to what she had to say, nodding in affirmative. "I see. I'm from the Tribe of Racing Winds. The Light tribe, in other words." She did not mention what her position was within the group, however.

They continued going deeper into the cave, and she continued talking. "We have a beautiful meadows and beaches there." The light gray fae extended her invitation. "You're always welcomed to come visit if you'd like. Maybe even do more exploring? There are a few places that might catch your fancy." The smell was getting more pungent the more they traveled. What could it be?

I don't live anywhere in particular, just anywhere I can find that is safe." Platinum opted not to tell Everlasting Serenade that she was born in the Neutral Tribe. She didn't belong to it now anyways, no point in saying that. Everlasting Serenade's reply that she was from the Tribe of Rushing Winds just affirmed Platinum's decision. She didn't want to make Everlasting Serenade dislike her for being born in another tribe, even though Platinum had no more connections to it. Frankly speaking, Platinum didn't really think Everlasting Serenade would judge her based on a previous alliance, but she didn't see the need to tell her anyways. It wasn't like her past had any effect on right now. "Really? Wow! Sounds nice!" Platinum remarked in response to Everlasting Serenade's words. She was starting to get distracted by the smell though.

verlasting Serenade nodded in acknowledgment at the other mare's answer. "I was a wanderer myself, up until a few years ago." She remarked. Who would have thought her prime age would include more adventures and complications then her younger years? "It's a wondrous feeling, not being shackled by herds or responsibilities." Here her features softened, and her voice trailed off a little as she went down memory lane.

"Would you have believed that I was in the Tribe of Eclipsing Orbits? And now I'm in the Tribe of Racing Winds." She chuckled, not knowing that Platinum had also been the Neutral tribe as she used to be. To her, it did not matter as much, since the Light tribe she now led had a decent relationship with the Neutral tribal leader. The odd one out would definitely be the Dark tribe, whom is still in disarray without a leader. Those violent and dark-minded ungulate—she could never understand what caused them to turn out that way. However, that was not in her place to judge; her job was keeping her own tribal members safe.

She smiled when the younger mare responded favorably to her offer. "Of course! Each of the tribes have their own special spots. My tribe just happened to have the beach." She shrugged, a little carelessly, but was inwardly pleased. There was nothing better then sharing something with an interested soul.

Here she lifted her nose up and sniffed. The air also seemed to be getting thicker and...warmer? The smell was also getting more pungent, like something going bad. "Goodness, that's strong." Unknown to the duo, they were nearing a place where there was a hot sulfur spring, which accounted for the bad smell. It was not connected to the cool spring they found earlier, but it was located very close to the pure water source. Now the cave walls were more narrower, only wide enough for one of them to pass. "After you, my dear."

So she was a wanderer as well, who liked the feeling of not being restrained by the responsibilities of a herd... WAIT, WAIT, WAIT-Everlasting Serenade was once also in the Tribe of Eclipsing Orbits?! Platinum made sure to not show the surprise too much, but she was absolutely shocked. Everlasting Serenade had been born in the same tribe she was... Hmm...She didn't recall any particularly special places back in the Tribe of Eclipsing Orbits. Then again, that was back many years ago. She probably just didn't remember. The smell made Platinum cringe. She tried to hold her breath as they stepped closer to the source of the smell. She took the lead, wondering how Everlasting Serenade could still talk. The smell seemed vaguely familiar, Platinum recalled, as she trotted along. The only thing that came from her mind was "hot", which was unfortunately not helping the situation. They eventually reached the sulfur spring. Platinum cringed again at the smell, but approached it in curiosity nonetheless. Her first realisation was that it was hot, burning hot.

t seemed like there was not much to see here, besides the sulfur spring. "I heard that the sulfur spring is good for your skin." The mare commented, but scrunched up her muzzle. "Though I don't know if I would want to stick my legs in such hot water." Truth be said, if the spring was not so hot and the smell not so pungent, she would be willing to put that theory to the test.

Cocking her head towards the young femme, Everlasting raised an eyebrow, as only equines could. "Would you want to try that? I would, if I didn't want to get scorched." She looked around some more. If only there were more sunshine that came through the cracks of the ceiling, there might be more things to explore.

But at least it was cooler here then above ground, so she was not complaining. She could only imagine how hot it must be back where the spring was. In the desert right now, it would be extremely hot. Hot enough for it to be dangerous. Any traveler better beware if they were caught in the unrelenting heat of the afternoon sun.

If Platinum had decided to go in to the hot spring, Everlasting Serenade would stand by, watching on. But if she decided to turn around and head back, the older mare would lead the way back. Either way, she could not wait to get back into the cool recess of the cave again, back in the cool and refreshing spring.

Her train of thought had already moved on from Everlasting Serenade being in the Tribe of Eclipsing Orbits once. Before Everlasting Serenade even asked, Platinum had raced towards the spring. Wrinkling her nose from the smell, she raced forward and proceeded to pounce into the liquid. For a moment, she gasped from the heat. A bad idea, she noted, since this just made the smell penetrate her nose more. Which was not a good thing. The next thing was how hot the spring was. She probably should have seen it coming, but the spring was so hot that Platinum felt that she was burning up for a second. Survival instinct screamed at her to throw herself out of the water. Her hooves began kicking at the water fiercely. Then, she realised that the spring was hot, but not that hot. It was...actually surprisingly comfortable considering the initial feel. Blinking, Platinum let her tensed muscles slowly relax and realised that it was actually not that bad. "I think you should try it! It's pretty nice!" She called out, embarrassed with her initial panic.

ark brown eyes blinked in curiosity as the mare thought about what she said...then widened in surprise and shock when the other ran straight in. "Oh dear." She winced, her whole body tensing up. It was not like the equine would die from the hot spring or anything, but it would definitely hurt and scorch the nerves on first contact.

The older mare rushed forward, going to the edge of the spring. "Platinum! Are you okay?!" The pretty palomino had been kicking around like she was being burned, and Serenade panicked for a moment. They were the only ones there for miles around...what could she do? But as she started forward, the other mare settled down and looked to be all right.

"A-Are you okay?" The pale gray femme gingerly took a step into the hot spring. "Oh! Hot! Hot!" She withdrew, but not completely. She dabbled at the water cautiously again. Oh, better. Not as hot. Perhaps she just needed to get used to it. It seemed like Platinum was doing just fine in there, and was starting to relax. Maybe she should join her.

Taking a deep breath, the older female slowly inched her way in. One leg at a time. Slowly and carefully wading into the deeper part of the hot spring. It felt almost like a replay, where the young mare just jumped in ahead while she followed in more slowly. She smiled as her body adjusted to the heat. "Ah, this feels good." She murmured. She could feel her muscles relaxing in the warm water, and was starting to feel a little drowsy.

"Now let's see if it actually makes our skin better." She remarked, settling deeper into the spring. She moved her legs around lazily, just enough to keep herself afloat and without making any splashes. Serenade was careful to keep her head above the water—she would not want to get any of that sulfur water in her eyes.
