Alone. It was a new companion to the young mare whom, until recently, had only know the traditional herd life. Constantly accompanied by watchful dams and a protective sire. It was a dream come true, now that she looked back on the situation from outside her little bubble. However, the decision to be a wanderer and to leave behind her perfect bubble had never been a regret she carried. Perhaps she regretted not telling her dam sooner. She might have also regretted not speaking to her sire about it, though she already knew he would have forbade it. There might have also been a moment where Avalon regretted not taking her half sibling with her. Her sister's company alone would have made the journey far more enjoyable. But that was not the filly's purpose. If it was... Avalon was certain the other mare would've been here. She would've been here to experience darkness without a dam's warmth. She would've been here to experience the scorching sun without the protection of a sire's shadow. Avalon would have had someone to speak to and share in the new sights and sounds. It was enough to make the palomino's hooves falter, grazing over the small stones gathering on her path. She could not deny, she missed her home at times. But this was Avalon's purpose. Where else could she have obtained such a view? A completely unobstructed scene of vast mountain ranges and never ending blue skies? It certainly would not have happened within the confines of her beloved familial gathering. Avalon could see it now; her dam's large rear blocking her from the ridgeline, a common protective standpoint that would also obstruct this grand view. The golden equine would slowly creep her way along the mountainside, eager to move but dreading to leave such a place. That was her understanding of her current path; to move while taking in all that she could see. This was her purpose for now. Why? Avalon could not fathom. But still the lull of the unknown would calm her homesickness and the pull of the wildernesses beyond would continue to guide her. This would be the mare called Avalon. ★ faiIf we were meant to stand still we would've been born saplings.

[googlefont=Great Vibes][googlefont=Raleway] Dream Melody tefiti | 572 words | NOTES: ^^ Slender limbs carried the young mare swiftly over the vast meadows into the land of Hidden Hearts and towards the Ringed Mountains. Up, over, and away... Pure bliss coursed through the femme as she flew on the wings of the wind, her hooves barely skimming across the emerald plain. Golden flaxen tassels flowed like a banner behind her, and she reveled in the sweetness of it all. It had been some time since she last experienced this taste of freedom. True, she was never really in bondage, nor was she ever 'stuck' in her herd against her will. However, this was the simple joy of living. This was the joy of being. Dream Melody now slowed her steps, as she started her ascent up the mountain. She had been here once before, on her own. That first time, she had misjudged the time it would take for her to reach the top, and she only made it up halfway before the sun started to set. She had then quickly made her way down before it was completely dark, as the mountain's twisting little path would prove dangerous to trod on in the dark. So this time, she had set out a little earlier, so she could actually make it to the top this time. There had been sayings of how beautiful the view is from the dome, how one could see the vast part of the land, stretching out as far as the eye could see. Hearing those had made her determined to make the trip one day, and today was the day. She had set her heart to behold it for herself, to see if those sayings were true or not. Her Akhal-Teke and Arabian lineage blended nicely together in mixtures of sturdy endurance and sure footings, topped with the delicate grace and fire of her ancestors. Her steps were quiet and light, slowing down when the narrow path twisted and turned unexpectedly. At times, it would broaden out, and had various little niches and crevices on the side which a weary traveler could rest for a while before continuing on their way. It was now that the young mare stopped for a minute on one of those resting areas, catching her breath. She was fit, but the climb was still not without its effects. In addition, the air seemed thinner up here, and her lungs had to heave for oxygen. Then, she caught a scent. An unfamiliar scent. Her ears perked up in curiosity and wariness, flicking this way and that way, trying to sense where the stranger was. Not too far from her, she could see another equine making their way up the mountain. Peering closer, she could make out the feminine form. Ah, another mare? That made her relax a little bit. She was always warned about strangers, but stallions especially. It was a good thing that it was not a stallion like last time, when she had ran in fear of the chasing brute. To make matters worse, it had also been during a storm, to boot. It had definitely left a negative impression on her, male strangers. However, mares were a different story. She had met a few kind souls here and there, and it made her much more open in making new friends. So with that in mind, she called out a cheery "Hello there!" and hoping that she did not startle the other mare.

Azure eyes basked in the glory of her new found home, admiring it's beauty and the mysterious being that laid hidden deep within. The air was crisp against her nares and even tickled as it grasped at her lungs, but it was a soothing type shock. The type that made a thrilling chill sweep along the mare's back. It did not bother her that the trek was long or a bit tougher than her normal terrain. Within her own thoughts, it made sense to climb the mountains to get a better grasp of the new land she would be calling home. From these heights, she could see the widest rivers and the strongest forests. From these cliffs she could predict where other equine might be living or traveling, and thus increase her chances of crossing paths with them. While making this decision to climb a mountain, it would never had crossed Avalon's thoughts to think someone might be up here as well. It might very well provide great protection from elements or predators in the uneven and steep terrain, but those great assets were against all. One wrong step could very well send the mare tumbling down to her death. It was dangerous, as well as peaceful, but inhabitable? That was not something she would have considered before hearing the sudden voice from behind her. Avalon would freeze in her stride, her ears swiveling around to better grasp at the sound of a strange voice. Deep within her chest the pounding of her heart increased it's rhythm as fear crept it's way into her bones. It was not that the tone of voice was overly aggressive, in fact it was quite the opposite. It was the fact she was not expecting it, that shocked the palomino so. Slowly she would turn her head, drinking in the sight of an entire mare walking up the very same trail, just strides behind her. How long had she been there without Avalon knowing? It was a frightening thought that she did not want the answer to. Still, as she took in the appearance of the new mare's friendly features, she could not think the pale female was here to harm her. With that quick judgement made, Avalon would ease her body tension and carefully turn her frame along the trail to fully face the new soul, a small smile gracing her muzzle as she did. "Why hello there!" She would call back, chuckling softly at the oddness of it all. "I did not expect to find someone else up here. Do you live here by chance?" If Avalon was intruding on claimed land, she wanted to know so she could apologize properly before she risked the chance of being chased out. Blue orbs flashed to the bank beside her, realizing that such a situation could be very deadly. Despite all the worries she should be experiencing, Avalon felt a bit of excitement. This is what she had desired when she made the decision to travel! To go to strange new lands and meet peculiar and kind horses. So while she should be on guard with the Mare of The Mountain, Avalon could not hold back her joy. What more adventures would today bring? ★ faiIf we were meant to stand still we would've been born saplings.

[googlefont=Great Vibes][googlefont=Raleway] Dream Melody tefiti | 372 words | NOTES: Short one ^^; Dream Melody had not noticed the other equine's presence until now. Or perhaps she has not been very attentive to what was ahead of her. That was probably it, as she had mostly kept her head low, looking at where she was placing each foreleg and avoiding all the little pebbles that might make her slip. Stumbling on these narrow paths would be dangerous, and she was not keen on getting her knees scrapped up and dirtying herself. She was not a vain soul, but she would not willingly run towards danger and messes if she could avoid it. The voice had seemed friendly enough, so she relaxed her stance. "Neither did I. Not many take the time and energy to travel all the way up this mountain." Here she lifted to head and gazed upwards to where the mountain peak was located. "Nay, I'm just hiking up to the top. I've heard that the view there is quite breathtaking, so I wanted to see that for myself." The sun already high in the sky, but they were not too far from the mountain peak. As long as she could make it back down before sundown, all would be fine. Her petite head swung back down to face the other mare, soft orbs studying her intently. "How about you? Do you live around here? Are you from one of the Tribes? You don't look like one from Gathering Shadows..." She paused, as if suddenly realizing how much she was rambling on like an overly-curious and annoyingly inquisitive foal. "Err, sorry!" She said hastily, apologetically. She usually kept to herself, but it was such a long time since she has met a friendly face, she could not help it. Then she realized she had not even given her name yet, the very base of courtesy. "My apologies! I didn't mean to put you on the spot. My name is Dream Melody, or just Melody. My dam and sire could not choose on which name to give me, so they decided to give me both." She shrugged her shoulders and gave a light laugh. "Are you traveling to the top for the views, too? Or perhaps you're on the way up to meet someone?"
