"SPONTANEITY IS THE BEST KIND OF ADVENTURE" "Huh, I only understood the part where you talked about kind company. And 'betwixt', betwixt..." She rolled it over on her tongue a few times as if to taste the word. "What that word means, it sounds cool. Betwixt!" Simple were her joys, and innocent her ways. Hestia was glad when her new buddy took the lead again. Even though she liked going ahead most of the time, she found that she did not mind it when it came to her new companion. It was a curious thing, for her to think of the stallion as her companion while it should be the other way around. But no matter, she enjoyed his company immensely, and did not bother to hide that fact. However, when the view opened up to a great vast valley below them, the cream-coated femme almost stumbled over her own legs at the sight. It may be getting dark, but the sight was still a thing to behold. "Uh-huh." She nodded absent-mindedly at the stallion's response to her question, not really hearing it. Her mind was somewhere else already. She was enthralled with the view before her. However, just up ahead was a narrow path with nothing around it. If they was not careful, it would be disastrous. Rather than balk at the danger, the spirited mare only threw her head back in excitement. "You go first, Auby, I'll be right behind you." She would have gone first, but since the older equine seemed to have been here before, she would submit to his lead. "Why I travel?" She flicked her pale tail in a careless fashion. "Why not?" And to her young mind, it made perfect sense. She needed no reason to travel, she simply did. WORDS: 290 | TAG: Loyalty | MUSE: 8/10 | MUSIC: x NOTES: They make quite the pair xD Kagney @ Adox

even if i am but a pretender to wisdom that in itself is philosophy—
"To be between. Betwixt!" Aubade bendshis neck to look back to her, ear hitched as he dares to take his full attention off the path before him. "When I was bored I would create words anew, inspired by what I saw in the grass. They stay with me even now. I'm happy you like the way they sound." His soft nickers empty into the wind. Part of him understood he could only hold her attention for so long even to explain his manner at any length. Whether or not the meaning were understood, speaking at Hestia were better than speaking to silent shadow and making up conversations in his head.
The pair come to an opening of the path that cuts into the cliffside and while the path does continue 'round before them is yet another cavern mouth excavated by the sands of time. Aubade seems content to rest for a bit and help himself to bits of coarse grass growing between the rocks. Really, he yearns for movement and adventure so sometimes he forgets his own appetite. Why not, he hears her say.
"Why not?" he parrots her as he turns his flank to her in this more open space. "Plenty of reason not to do so. There is danger, there is the unknown, there... being all alone." He turns his head to her. "One could become lost on the path and never quite find her way home. Doesn't that frighten you?" These questions all are spoken with the urgency of enquiry, not to be taken to heart.

"SPONTANEITY IS THE BEST KIND OF ADVENTURE" Once questions and words start pouring out of her mouth, it was hard for her to stop. "Wow, you create your own words? You can do that?" The wheels in her mind were turning, ideas and muses crashing into each other. "I want to make up my own words, too! Hmmm..." At every step, Hestia seemed to learn something new and interesting from the dapple stallion. So far, he has not ceased to impress upon the young mind of his companion. They made it safely through the narrow path and onto a broader way. She went off to the side to sniff at the foliage. Some looked familiar, and some looked strange. Seeing the older equine nibble on some of the grass, she did likewise. It was coarse and dry, and it did not taste good compared to the soft and tender grass she was used to having. However, since she did not want to spit it out in front of the stallion, she only scrunched her nose and chewed it as much as she could before swallowing it. "Ew. Do you actually like that?" She made a face. "Eh, I'll eat more when we get back down. The grass taste better there, and I'm not hungry now."Her eyes once turned towards the way ahead. She could go on forever and ever, but she still liked to go back home for the night. "Hmm I suppose so, but I don't so much about danger. Once you explore a place, then it's no longer an unknown place. The more ground you cover, the more you know. Right?" She hesitated, not really sure what to make of what she just said. It had sounded cool, but was there any truth to it? Youthful eyes turned towards an older pair. "And besides, I'm not alone, you're here Auby."WORDS: 306 | TAG: Loyalty | MUSE: 8/10 | MUSIC: x NOTES: Top of cliffs sounds cool! Or throw a dice xD Kagney @ Adox

even if i am but a pretender to wisdom that in itself is philosophy—
"Of course you can create your own words. What are words but the names we give to particular things. Think of it. All things were once nameless. All words once wordless- long before you and I." The stallion lifts his gray nose to the path that continues along the outside of the mountain. "Words are such small things. Small things easily scatter. What scatters can easily be replaced. We've talked for a time now and you know me to have many words. Many of these words have little meaning to you, but what has less and little meaning to you doesn't make what it is meant to convey any less significant. Your desire to listen and learn on your own is why I believe we will make pivotal travelling companions, Hestia. However long our sojourn, I will appreciate it fully."
Aubade shakes out his mane and, ripping another bite of gnarly grass on his way back to the upper path he quickly chews and swallows. "Like it? Suppose I do not dislike it... If I do not taste this I will not know what it is different from. I could eat this all day and never be full." He snorts and, relaxing his head he continues upwards in their wayward climb, far from the most impressive height in these mountains. But Aubade isn't here to climb high. Only simply to climb.
Hestia's statement turns his ear and his tail shifts into the oncoming breeze. "You're right. You're not alone! Neither am I." A soft nicker preludes the double-checking of his front hoof just to make sure he'd caught flat ground and not the uncomfortable-looking stone in his path. "What you said just now, there is wisdom in it. One might say the more you know, the more you don't know. When you know something you want to know more about it and the mysteries never end. How do I know this is true? I look inside myself." Cool wind passes over the sweat on his back and, in that instant, feels incredibly pleasant. In time the pair comes to the end of their upwards path and are met with a flatness that goes on. Furthest away from them is the rise of the Rocky Ruins, a place as desolate and labyrinthine as the path they'd come. Indomitable spires of granite cast shadows upon themselves.

"SPONTANEITY IS THE BEST KIND OF ADVENTURE" Every step of the journey, the perlino female had been learning new things. She had not expected to meet a new companion who opened her mind to different ideas. "Hmmm...brith...brill...brilli..." She muttered to herself, rolling around different letters and tones together, trying to see what fits and what does not. After a few minutes of muttering, she finally came up with something. "'Twas brillig!" She was fairly pleased with herself. It sounded like nonsense, but it was all her own. The stallion was saying something again, but like before, she only caught a few words. She got the main gist of it. "So basically, you just said that words are important, even though I may not understand it. Why couldn't you just have said it like that? Easier to understand than all those words you said." She was throwing a little cheek at the older equine, though in a completely innocent way with no hint of malice. "And what was it...I heard some of those older mares say something like 'less is more'? Did I use that expression right?" No matter on how he responded, she would have already moved on to the next subject. Her mind rarely stayed on one topic for long. "You look inside yourself? Huh?" She had turned her head towards his direction, eyes questioning the meaning of his words. "But don't you learn from the things outside? How do you learn from yourself?" She shook her head, not understanding. "That's so hard, I don't get it!"Up ahead, their path was climbing upwards to a steeper ascent. Hestia bounded ahead, then stopped. "Ooooh can we go all the way to the top? I've never been up so high! I want to see what's up there!" However, she had no notion of time, and had not noticed that the better part of the day has passed. It would not be too long before the sun would begin its trek down in the west. even if i am but a pretender to wisdom that in itself is philosophy—
Aubade can feel a piece of himself within this mare and perhaps she too felt a likeness in his company. The presence of another, he feels, is just as serene as being alone with the wind at his shoulder. Neither good or bad. It simple is. "Brillig," he repeats the word to himself and decides he likes it. Yes, he'll have to make good use of the spirit of 'brillig' from now on.
The playful critique she gives him is substantial and it lifts his head as he considers it. "Less is more... you are right." As they reach the top of their climb he turns is body away to make room for her. "How could I forget. I spend so much time with mine own thoughts, Hestia. Pray forgive me. I will try to be less... so I can be more for you." Ears pitched forward, he gives her all his attention and sincerity and tucks his chin low. Before they can continue he paws gentle at the cracked earth beneath them.
"We learn more from what is without, as you have already taught me, but we can also learn from what we keep within. All thoughts, emotions, desires, compassion. When you can see yourself as a shard of the whole and that in all things are reflections of you, the world becomes infinitely more interesting. Endless knowledge and wisdom abound... That structure over there, these spires, to what end do they reach toward the sky? To what end to we live and die?"
The day had passed overlong and thought some time ago the sun had begun its descent there is plenty of light to continue forward. "At the end of confusion lies clarity and in clarity, more confusion. Nature is a cyclical, you see. When one thing reaches the peak of itself, just like these spires, it is nature's will that it will reunite with its origins and become the dust beneath our hooves." Perhaps he found comfort in hearing himself speak. Even these bad habits, he knows, he has formed over time.
A wiser horse should talk less and yet, somehow, he finds it impossible. To him this is merely a small obstacle to overcome. "If you wish to climb higher then let us climb! The ghosts have welcomed us into their fold, but we must be careful or we will be made to join them." The gray tosses his head towards the path before them and, if she already hadn't, continues onward. "Is there aught you would like to say to the spirits of this place?"

"WHAT DOESN'T KILL ME MAKES ME FEEL ALIVE" "'Tis a brillig day!" Hestia was still rejoicing over the creation of her new word. Her very own word, something she has created from the imagination of her mind, something that can never be taken away - surely that was worth celebrating about. "You're still talking a lot though," she quipped, "using a lot of words to explain one thing. Butttt I don't mind it. Not when it's you." It was gratifying to hear the philosopher take her words seriously. She was truly grateful for it, for back at home, barely anyone bothered listening to her. Thus, now that there was a willing ear, all those unspoken words are tumbling out like a waterfall. Bright eyes followed the direction of Aubade's words about the mountains. Indeed, she has often been impressed about the grandeur of these soaring peaks, but never did she stop to think about their purpose. To her, they were simply there. "'Live and die'?" She scoffed proudly at the latter word. "I'm too young to be thinking of dying yet!" As to to prove her point, the youngling leap in the air like a graceful doe, but landed clumsily. However, she was not the least bit embarrassed; she only shook the dust off her legs and continued on like nothing had happened. Time seems like nothing to adventuerurs. Hence, when the older ungulate agreed to continue pressing on forward, Hestia's aura seemed to brighten once more. "Yay! Let's gooo!" She had no idea what was going on in Aubade's mind, but he seemed to know many things, and was pondering hard on them. However, that was of small importance to her. Whatever he did not say out loud was not something she would bother trying to guess. "Hmm, what I'd like to say to the spirits here?" She wrinkled her nose for a moment before calling out saucily, "Hi there, spirits! Hope we're not intruding! Even if we are, we're still comin' for ya! There," she turned to the dappled stallion, a smug grin on her maw, "now, your turn!"WORDS: 342 | TAG: Loyalty | MUSE: 9/10 | MUSIC: x NOTES: How long should we let these two travel? xD Kagney @ Adox
