Blazing Embers
"Teach light to counterfeit a gloom."
- John Milton -
- John Milton -
For some unknown reason, Blazing Embers got the notion that the mare seemed concerned about his plight. That gesture touched him more than it should. "Don't worry about me, one day I might be able to move on from her memory." He shrugged his shoulder, muscles rippling under his glossy coat. "Perhaps I will be able to move on and accept that she's gone for good." His tone was wry, but did not seem so downcast as before. Why was that? Maybe it had something to do with his new companion - or maybe it was just his voicing his thoughts that lifted the burden.
"A good time?" He had warned her. Blazing Embers tossed her a a barely there smile. "I'm not match for the younglings these days," he said softly, "I'm just a bunch of moving bones." In all aspects, he was not old at it - it was only sorrow that had aged his mentality. Otherwise, his physique was perfectly mobile and mature. He was still strong, and if only his mood was lifted and energized, he would seem like a completely different individual. Who knows? Perhaps he might be able to regain his old self again, the old self that was bright and full of passion.
The stag sniffed the air. Something smelled strange, but it was probably nothing. Maybe he was just being paranoid. "Anyways, if you don't mind my company, I'm planning to visit the stream by the willows. Would you like to join me?" With that, he started moving towards the water source, which was only a little ways from where they were standing. Whether the female would follow was up to her, but he did look back a few times.
It was a fairly short distance, just over a little hill and across the meadow. It was a clear sunny day, and the meadow was lush and green. The grass was tall, halfway up his knees. He tossed back a strand of hair that fell in front of his vision. A little part of him tugged towards the gorgeous lady - she was making him feel things he has not felt for a long time. Was that a good thing? He knew that nothing would take place of his beloved's memory, but maybe, just maybe, Aphrodite could be his saving grace from the past.
