She was on her own again. Aphrodite rarely felt any regret in leaving stallions, but the thing she did have was a sudden pang of loneliness. After spending time with someone, she was always a little lonely when it came time for them to part, but she also knew it was necessary for her own well-being. What was she supposed to do, stay with them forever? Settle down, start a family, be one of those mares? No, she was better off on her own, with the occasional flirtatious encounter, generally ending in.. well, Aphrodite always felt better after they'd ended. For a short time, anyway, before she was off to find the next one. She felt more like herself at the moment, her spirits higher than they'd been not long before, excitement at what would soon follow hitting her harder than she'd thought it would. She would find someone else, she wouldn't be alone for a short time, and then she would move on. The routine may be questionable, by some's standards, but it was also necessary for her to avoid being lonely for any more than a few moments. She didn't want to be alone. Companionship kept her sane, kept her from growing too involved in her own obsession with the stallion who had been captured, and to toss it aside would be a grave mistake indeed. Enchantress

Blazing Embers"Teach light to counterfeit a gloom." - John Milton - A buckskin stallion can be seen making his way towards the willows. His steps were quiet and sure, as if they were familiar with the place. Though he was certainly on the more mature age range, his stocky and muscular frame has not changed too much, despite the events that in his twisted seasons.
His early life was spent primarily in the desert, where he was physically hardened and shaped. His sweet and charming personality had resulted in a few foals, but after a few years, he found the love of his life. With his beloved by his side, he rose to be the leader of the Tribe of Eclipsing Orbits, and they shared a few sweet years together. However, after his mate suddenly vanished, things fell apart for Embers. The once-proud stag gradually lost everything, and was reduced to an empty shell of his former self. Now, he spends his time aimlessly traveling around; a sane shadow wandering about the land.
As he neared the edge of the stream, he noticed a figure not too far from him. He had avoided meeting others for a while now, and stood there, uncertain and disturbed. To approach, or not? That was the question, but he had no answers. After a moment's hesitation, the stallion ambled towards the bank, keeping a healthy distance between him and the other equine. It was like a waiting game - who would speak up first? WC - 239 | princess Notes - Sorry this is a little rusty, haven't gotten into this guy's head in a while ^^;

Aphrodite knew when she was being followed. Always keep your eye out for danger, her parents had taught her when she was younger (mainly using each other as examples, though Aphrodite had tried to block that part out), and as a whole, it had served her well. She was no stranger to stallions following her. They followed her when she tried to leave, when she said that she needed to be on her way, that their night together had been just that; a night. They followed her when she walked past a bachelor herd, one or two always breaking off to take a look at her. She was gorgeous, after all. Why shouldn't they want to follow her, to stare at her? This one, however, was keeping his distance. That alone was a warning sign to Aphrodite, a hint that she should turn around and fix her glare on him, prepared to strike should he try anything. So instead of walking faster (he would catch up to her if he wanted to, running wouldn't do her much good), she stopped and whirled around, putting on a flirtatious expression. Now, she would find out what he wanted. Was it companionship, or was he just curious? He looked to old to have never seen a pretty mare before; if he was curious, she'd be sorely disappointed. What kind of stallion didn't want a companion, even if it was only for a short while? "Usually, the stallions are chasing me after our time together. You must be eager to start, hm?" She asked in a sultry voice, lowering her head and glancing up at him, trying to appear as tempting as possible. She needed to figure out what it was he wanted, especially before things grew dangerous for her. She didn't want them to escalate to the point where she wouldn't be able to back out; that was something that Aphrodite feared. Well, that and a few other things, but in this situation, it was mostly that. Enchantress

Blazing Embers"Teach light to counterfeit a gloom." - John Milton - Blazing Embers did not blame the mare when she whirled around to face him. He would have been wary, too, if he was a mare and all alone. He lifted his head, taking in a full look of the pretty sight before him. She was good-looking, he would admit. However, in his eyes, there would never be another one could match up to his beloved's beauty and love.
"Usually, the stallions are chasing me after our time together. You must be eager to start, hm?"
Now he tilted his head to the side, hearing the voice speak to him. The feminine voice floated across the distance between them. "Are they? No, I'm not interested in that, miss." His baritone voice was soft, slightly guttural as he had not spoken for a while now. If spoken in another tone, it would certainly have come off as offensive.
Thinking again of his choice of words, he hoped the young female did not take it in the wrong way. She had a flirtatious look on her face, however. It was something he had not seen in a long time. It did stir something in him, but he suppressed it. What was he doing, giving ground to a pretty face when his mate could still be out there alive? He was uncertain whether his other half was still out there, but until he saw with his own two eyes of her body, he would believe she is still alive.
His maturity did not allow him to simply brush off a female, though. That would be rude and unseemly for a gentleman like him. "If it's company you are looking for, I'm afraid I will be a poor companion." He was going to upfront and honest. "I'm looking for my beloved, who suddenly disappeared one day years ago." His dark eyes had a haunted look in them. "Would you happen to have met or seen a golden pelt mare? Warm brown eyes and dark legs?"

Not interested? For a brief moment, Aphrodite was offended, her expression changing from flirtatious to slightly stunned, as if he had said something that was unthinkable. In her mind, it was truly strange; why didn't he want her? Was he uninterested in mares altogether, or did he have a love of his own? Aphrodite had tempted many a stallion away from their so-called "loves," and those had been the ones she was harshest on, angered by their lack of commitment, their promise to do better only to turn around and follow the first pretty face that happened to tempt them. Indeed, they didn't deserve her affection, and yet she bestowed it on them anyway, just another pretty face for them to eventually forget. "Are you sure? I could make it well worth your while," She responded once she'd managed to get over her initial shock, the sultry tone coming back into her voice, a coy expression replacing the stunned one. Surely there was some way to tempt him. Aphrodite knew that every stallion had some weakness, there must be something that she could offer that he would eventually cave to, a specific set of words or actions that would draw him in. He was so polite, it felt strange. Usually, stallions were anything but polite, their crude natures emerging in the face of Aphrodite's pure beauty. At the mention of his beloved, Aphrodite's expression changed. Ah. Well, if she'd disappeared years ago and he was still looking for her, she doubted he was going to be able to persuade him to fall captive to her charms. Besides, that fact struck a chord with her; with her own love missing, it was a painful fact indeed that he didn't know where his own was. "I haven't," She responded, the flirtatious tone leaving her voice in favor of a more sympathetic one. "How long has it been?" She didn't want to think it, knowing that she'd be devastated if it were her own love who was dead, but if he hadn't seen her... she was either dead, or she no longer wanted anything to do with him, and Aphrodite wasn't sure which one would bring him some comfort in this particular situation. Blazing Embers"Teach light to counterfeit a gloom." - John Milton - As Blazing Embers described his beloved's description, he once again felt a sharp pang - a pang of loneliness. It still hurt, even after all these years. He truly did not know whether she had fell victim to a kidnapping or an accident; he did not want to think of the other possibility...the possibility that she had left him.
No, his heart wretched, we were happy together. She would never have left me. No... But still, there were the nagging thoughts and questions: What if she had indeed left him for another male? What did he do wrong? Has he wronged her in some way? Was he not enough? The stallion shook his head, trying to get out of the vicious cycle of doubts that has plagued him all this time.
The femme was speaking again. "You are beautiful, my dear, but I'm afraid you'll be sorely disappointed." He offered a slight smile. "Any stallion would be honored to have you in their company." In the gentlest way possible, he was trying to dissuade her. He did not know whether that would actually work, but he hoped she would not feel too hurt. Thankfully, she seemed to understand a bit about his sorry state, as her next words had changed, along with her tone.
"Three years...it's been three years." Three long years. He could not remember the exact time when she had disappeared, but time seemed to pass by like a blur. A slow blur. What he has been doing all this time? He can barely remember what he does day by day, besides the minimum actions of survival. No, he had to be rational now. He was not alone, and though he was in a deplorable state, common courtesy was still required of him.
"My name is Blazing Embers. At your service, miss." His head bobbed. He had offered his name as a sign of goodwill, and did not ask for the female's name in return. Whether the mare decided to take it as a token of good intentions was up to her - he has yet to get over the loss of his other half, and he was loyal. Until he has seen with his own eyes his beloved's body—whether dead or alive—he would stay true to their commitment.

I don't know, I don't know, I don't know why I do it every, every, every time The words he was speaking should have been true, but apparently, they weren't. Despite her best efforts, this tom didn't want her, and also despite her best efforts, she couldn't seem to get him to change his mind. She wasn't tempting enough, evidently; it was rare to meet someone so truly attached to his own beloved. Aphrodite wasn't going to lie, it hurt a little, remembering her own love and wondering if he would've been this loyal to her.. if he was remaining loyal to her. It struck a pang of guilt in her, one that was gone a moment later, replaced by a new determination and a need to figure out what this stallion's problem was. Who wouldn't be tempted by a face such as hers? Aphrodite took great pride in her beauty, so seeing someone uninterested felt like a personal slight, no matter how much it shouldn't have. "Oh, I doubt you could disappoint me." She smiled (as much as she could), the coy expression falling over her features once more, disappointment replaced with determination. Whether or not he would fall victim to her charms remained to be seen, but that wasn't going to stop Aphrodite from doing her best. After all, who would she be without her need to shamelessly flirt, regardless of what the stallion thought about it? Most of the time, they were pleased; this was a new situation for her, and one that she didn't care for in the slightest. Three years. Three years, and he was still fighting to be loyal to her, to find her. Aphrodite felt another pang, this time bordering on angry as she wondered, once more, where her own love was. Had he tried to find her? Tried to escape? Had he ever wondered about her, or had he simply accepted his new life, without once wondering how this would've affected her... affected them? "That must be lonely," She remarked, though her voice took on a softer, almost kind tone as she spoke. Focus, Aphrodite. It was hard to focus when his answer had hit her harder than she'd expected, but she was doing her best with it anyway. She didn't want to show too much weakness, especially to a stranger. Aphrodite tucked the name away into her mind, unsure of whether or not she would have use of it again; considering the way this was going, she doubted she would try to seek him out. Why should she, when he wasn't in need of her companionship? Then again... it could be nice to have a companion for a short while, one who wasn't after her romantically. One who cared about her, rather than her mere appearance. "It's nice to meet you," She remarked, her voice still quieter than it had been only moments before. "I'm Aphrodite." Her name rarely came into use when she entered a conversation with a stallion; things moved too quickly for her to take a moment and truly speak to them, and all in all, this was something that appeared to have been much-needed. On her part, anyway. image credit; taken from herelyric credit; Sober by Demi Lovato tags: Enchantress

Blazing Embers"Teach light to counterfeit a gloom." - John Milton - Even though Blazing Embers was standing there in front of a good-looking mare, his eyes saw another mare. She was the color of gold and sunshine, of sweet memories love. Everen. The name came unbidden to his mind. Many have told him to forget about her, but how could he? After finding the love of his life, how could he let her go so easily? Yet, if it was by her own free will that she left him... He did not want to think about it, but if it was true, was his devotion and loyalty going to be his downfall? He was already a mockery, merely a shadow of his former glory.
"Oh, I doubt you could disappoint me."
The unfamiliar feminine voice broke through his thoughts. It did not take much observation to see that she was flirting with him, playing for his attention. She was a beauty, and a true catch for any male with eyes. Embers saw it, and had to fight down a strange feeling. He could not quite place it, but the interest was frightening. It was small, but it was there. He quickly suppressed it.
"Are you all here by yourself? That's not very safe." It certainly seemed like she was alone, and he would be too gentlemanly to leave a single young mare in the wild by herself. "If it's a protector you are looking for, I can fill that need." If she wanted his protection, he could give it, although probably not in a satisfactory manner.
From past experience, he knew he had offended the young femme, and sought to remedy that. "Aphrodite? Beautiful name for a beautiful mare." He was sincere, and he was not blind to beauty. She seemed to understand him, though, as they conversed more. There was a little quip of curiosity, so he decided to prod a little more into that.
"You don't have anyone?" He knew he was asking a sensitive question. He did not know what she had gone through, but she seemed to relate to his pain on a certain level. At the very least, he has found a kindred spirit.

I don't know, I don't know, I don't know why I do it every, every, every time Once more, flirtation turned to disappointment as the stallion brushed off her advance with a single comment. She wasn't sure how he was doing this; most were weak enough to fall for her within a matter of moments, without taking this long and continuously brushing her off. Sure, the chase was fun, but Aphrodite wasn't here for fun; she was here to keep from being lonely, not attempt to steal another's heart through her own forces. She was beginning to grow tired of playing games; there had to be stallions (besides the one she'd met earlier) who were willing to just do it, without any strings attached. "I assure you, I'm perfectly safe." She had never been harmed before, though traveling alone did get lonely; Aphrodite was careful enough to the point where potentially dangerous stallions were avoided and bold enough to capture the ones whose attention wouldn't do any harm to her. It was a delicate balance, but one that Aphrodite thankfully knew what she was doing with it. "But, I suppose a protector would do some good, hm?" This could be her in; she wouldn't have to stay for long, just long enough to prove to herself that he could be won over, and then she would leave. After she'd gotten what she wanted, of course, because what would the point be otherwise? His comment about her name drew forth a sweet laugh, one that didn't seem to fit her at all; it was the laugh she used when trying to draw others in closer, to trap them into believing that she was sweet and good and pure, rather than the mare she was. "You flatter me," She responded, though the underlying tone in her voice made it clear that she appreciated the flattery more than she would let on out loud. Her voice may give it away, but she wouldn't actually say the words. Her good nature died down, however, after Blazing Embers questioned whether or not she had anyone. The question that she was asked often, though never in that specific tone of voice, never by someone who hadn't expressed interest in her. "Not at the moment," She responded, with another laugh, albeit one more strained than the last. "Perhaps someday I will." "Someday" meaning probably never, though he didn't need to know that. What if she could change his mind? She didn't want to turn him away in the last seconds, after all. image credit; taken from herelyric credit; Sober by Demi Lovato Enchantress

Blazing Embers"Teach light to counterfeit a gloom." - John Milton - Unfortunately, it has been too long. It was apparent that Blazing Embers has lost much of his touch when it comes to dealing with females. He seemed to be offending the mare in whatever he said, and stepping in areas which he should not. For the sake of his beloved's memory, he would stay true to her. However, this mare was making it difficult for him. Because of his strange aura, many females have not even tried to get close to him. But this mare has, and his hormone drive was acting up against his heart's convictions. He would have to be careful, both for himself and for the mare.
Now, he was doubting himself. Should he have offered his protection? He could easily be manipulated into some sort of situation, but he has already extended that offer, and he was not the type to go back on his words. He still had his pride, after all. "Is there anywhere in particular that you are traveling to? I could escort you there." At the very least, he would carry out what he said he would do.
The buckskin male studied the mare, ears perked. He had heard the slight inflation in her voice between her words. She was saying something flirtatious, but her tone said otherwise. Yet, though she looked perfectly capable of taking care of herself--and he had no doubt she had--it was his nature to protect those under him. "I'm sure you will find someone." Ah, now he was looking too closely. He shook his head and averted his gaze. It was a struggle between his physical need and his past convictions, and honestly, he did not know which would come out as victor.

I don't know, I don't know, I don't know why I do it every, every, every time He was so polite, Aphrodite wasn't sure what to think. She never knew what to do when stallions treated her with respect rather than, well... how they usually looked at her. She knew even less about the kindness he was showing her, and evidently, for no reason. If he were truly devoted to his beloved, then why was he trying to help her? She couldn't give him anything (that he wanted, anyway), and the idea that he was helping just to be nice was one that was foreign to Aphrodite. She rarely did anything unless there was something in it for her. Closer to never, as a matter of fact. Her brow furrowed, trying to think of why he would be doing this. "No. Nowhere in particular." The words came out absentmindedly, without Aphrodite really thinking about what she was saying, too absorbed in her own thoughts to do anything else. She needed to get out of this funk, that was for sure. She'd thought he could offer her the type of company she was looking for; evidently not, as proven by his strangely constant dedication to his love. Well, that was fine. She didn't need that, anyway. She would find someone else, someone more willing, and she would.. she would move on with her life. Just as she always did. Her gaze softened at his comment about her finding someone. She hoped so, but then again, he didn't know her. He didn't know who she was, the type of mare that she was, and she was somewhat surprised that he felt he could make that assumption when she wasn't so sure he was correct. "Someday, maybe," She responded with a slight shrug. "What about you? Are you just looking for your mare, or is there somewhere specific you're hoping to end up?" Perhaps she could accompany him for a while. It would be a welcome change, with nothing expected of her. Then again, Aphrodite wasn't so sure she would like that. Blazing Embers"Teach light to counterfeit a gloom." - John Milton - For now, he seemed to have scored. At the moment, that is. The pretty mare seemed slightly confused at his offer. Was it because she never had a protector before? The stallion's heart twisted in compassion. Growing up, he was taught to respect and protect those who were weaker than him. Not to say that the females were weaker, but this was extended also to younger equines and foals. It was such a sad thing when mares were treated like nothing, or taken advantage of. From the side of his perspective, Blazing Embers studied her facial expression. In his experience, there was nothing more plain and telling than a female's body language. Even if they say something, they may actually mean something else.
"I have no plans either," he admitted. "Back when she disappeared, I went crazy trying to find her. But after all these years..." There was a slight hesitation in his voice. "I just want some sort of closure so I can move on. But ah, don't mind me." He shook his mane, dark tassels flying. "You need not be concerned about my past." Being vulnerable was not easy, but Embers found that his heart felt a little lighter after sharing his past. He had been bottling up all his thoughts and emotions, it had become a heavy burden for him. But now that he has said them out loud, they don't seem to be quite as weighty anymore.
"Since you also have nowhere in particular that you want to go, what do you want to do? Find someone to spend the rest of your life with?" He watched her closely. He did not know what she had gone through, but she must have had some experience beforehand that shaped her to what she is now. He did not know why, but he was getting more and more drawn to this young mare, wishing to protect her and help her.

I don't know, I don't know, I don't know why I do it every, every, every time I know how you feel, Aphrodite thought, but she didn't dare say anything aloud. In her experience, the companions she chose preferred when she was light, flirty, nothing too serious to weigh down their conversations. There was nothing worse than a mare who was too chatty; those were the types of mares that got left, unless whoever they were with truly loved them. Her beloved had been like that; and, evidently, Blazing Embers was like that. It was good for her to know, and although she wasn't sure whether she would open up more or not, she was thankful that she had the option if she desired it. He wasn't looking for anything; she had no reason to put herself on display at the moment. An unseen weight seemed to lift off of her, one Aphrodite hadn't even realized it was there until it was gone, and she breathed a sigh of relief. She had no one to impress. If she wanted to flirt, she could, but there was no reason for her to worry about what would happen if she made a slip of the tongue; he wasn't just going to up and leave her. "I don't know," She admitted to his question, her expression growing a little more concerned. "I'm not really a... forever type of mare, if you know what I mean." It was more a few days here, a few days there, and then gone without a trace. There had been a few stallions that Aphrodite had grown more attached to; however, they were gone now. She'd left in the middle of the night, determined not to develop feelings for them, just as she always did. Although usually, it was because she could sense them growing too attached to her, and she didn't want to deal with the drama of trying to handle a lovesick stallion. They could be difficult to deal with, to say the least. "What about you? If you find your mare, would you stay with her or perhaps look for something.. new?" She suggested, that flirtatious tone creeping back up into her voice. When the pressure was gone for her to be like that all the time, it felt all the more worthwhile when she allowed that tone to return. notes; THIS IS SO LATE I'M SORRY Enchantress image credit; taken from herelyric credit; Sober by Demi Lovato

Blazing Embers"Teach light to counterfeit a gloom." - John Milton - Things had taken a serious turn. Blazing Embers may not understand everything about the mare, but he knew enough that something must have happened to shape her into what she is now. But he was not going to prod into that - if she was comfortable sharing her thoughts or past, she would. Otherwise, there was not use trying to pry out information from an unwilling participant.
"I see. Well, I doubt I'm the type you usually take company with," he observed, attentive eyes studying her facial features. "I'm quite the boring type, if I do say so myself." He was jesting, of course, but there was a wry and somewhat sad quality in his tone. He was not always like that. He used to be bold and brash and full of life and spirit. But he has allowed one soul to carry his heart and soul away, with no closure nor respite. It was a struggle, really, learning how to break from the past and keep going on with life. Deep down, he had an idea that his beloved was not ever coming back, but his heart did not want to admit it. Not yet.
"If I find her..." For a brief second, he allowed himself to hope. "If she would have me back, I'd stay by her side forever." But that was only a dream, a fleeting wish that may never come true. "But if not, I will have to learn how to live again. It would be easier with someone else, but I don't know yet." His voice cracked a little, but managed to finish his say without any other visible effect. He may still be grieving, but that did not mean he has lost his ego of not showing weakness. "What about you? You say you are not a forever type of mare. What are you then?"

I don't know, I don't know, I don't know why I do it every, every, every time The stallion didn't seem boring to Aphrodite; then again, very few horses did. She was interested by those around her only for what they could give her, and although Blazing Embers didn't seem like he'd ever give her what she wanted, she was willing to tag along and see what else he may have to offer in the future. Perhaps nothing would come of their newfound, somewhat odd partnership, but she was allowed to at least imagine a future in which it would. Even if nothing were to come of it, Aphrodite hoped that she would be able to get something out of this experience; albeit certainly not what she was looking for. "I could use a change anyway," She responded with a slight shrug, in an attempt to dissuade him from putting himself down further. Aphrodite never knew what to do in situations like those, even when the other may be joking; she was used to thinking the best of herself, and since she was a young filly, she'd rarely had to build herself up. Others had always done it for her. She usually didn't do it herself unless they were going to give her something she wanted, but she figured there was no harm in allowing this sad-looking stallion a bit of relief. Besides, she didn't want to travel with someone who was putting themselves down; as mentioned before, she'd have no idea what to do in that situation. He still seemed so sad about the memory of his beloved; Aphrodite could sympathize with that, and yet, she wondered if he would find a way to move on. She had somewhat moved on; perhaps not for a long period of time, but for long enough that she was willing to prepare for the fact that he may never come back, or she may never find him, and continue with her lifestyle. Would he just be sad and lonely forever? "I hope you find her," She responded, in a quiet voice. Staying with someone else forever, someone who couldn't be the same as the first would be cruel to both parties involved. His question caused her to stop for a moment, silence filling the air between the two of them. What was she? Just a fun time for some stallion, someone for them to brag about later on? They were just a fun time for her, but what was she? A flirt? An actress? Someone who wouldn't love, who couldn't be loved? She'd been in love before; she'd been loved before. Now, Aphrodite wasn't so sure. "Someone who likes a good time," She responded, with a toss of her mane. It wasn't the answer she was sure she should've gone with, but Aphrodite didn't know what else to say at this point. The conversation was getting too bleak for her.
