Huntress
Since resting and making friends with Carrot, Huntress had allowed herself to relax a little into the exploration of her new life. She set her goal to know every inch of the new lands she found herself in, and although she had only met one friendly equine, surely there were more out there, and she wanted to know them all. The dunalino mare felt the weight on her shoulders from her past lift with every step she took into adventure and exploration and on leaving the safety of the willows, she found herself staring in awe at the biggest mountain peak she had seen in her short life. So awestruck and enamored by the pull of the mountain, it was the first place she travelled to.
Her hooves still ached a little from the journey from her homelands and the mountain path wasn't making it any better. The path was clear, however it was steep and jagged in many places, quite often prompting her to leap narrow parts to avoid taking a nasty tumble. Thankfully she traversed the worst parts safely enough, only stumbling once or twice, and she was able to take a break part way up before moving on. By the time Huntress had reached the peak, the sun was beginning to set on a nearly cloudless sky and was slowly being swallowed by the horizon.
The dunalino mustang exhaled quietly, a sense of peace washing over her as she observed the wonders of the natural world. From were she stood on the precipice of the mountain she could see everything. It really felt like another world up here, so far away from everything else. She smiled gently and lifted her head, closing her eyes as she felt her golden coat warm in the setting sunlight.

"If it scares you, it might be a good thing to try." Hestia's hooves were once again scouring the Ringed Mountains, and once again to discover a new place that she has never been before. Today's destination was Mount Meditatio, a place she had heard of but never attempted. One of the reasons was because it was a mountain, and the young mare preferred skimming across the flat plains over climbing peaks any day. However, after her little trek with an older stallion, she had felt more comfortable climbing upwards. Swift legs brought the perlino fae towards the base of the mountain, and once there, she stared in awe at the massive size of it. It looked so much taller than she had thought—which made sense, and it made her even more excited. She spent a few seconds of trying to see the top, but huffed in impatience when the nearby trees blocked her view. Oh well, she would be standing on the very top before the day was over! At least, that was her objective. A few hours later, after much stumbling and wrong turns, Hesita could finally see the peak. Her steps quickened at the sight, and after turning the last bend, was greeted with the sight of the vast expanse before her...and another equine. "Oh! Hello there!" She piped. She gave a cursory glance at the other mare before admiring the view from the top. At last, she could see her reward for that hard climb. "Wow..." She breathed, admiring the way how the sky light up in its reds and oranges. She had not thought the climb would take that long, seeing that it was already sunset, but at least she got there. Turning her attention back to the stranger, she introduced herself in a cheery voice. "I'm Hestia! How long have you been up here? It's pretty, isn't it?" Kagney @ Adox

Huntress
As the sky turned less blue and more into reds and oranges that reminded her of fall, Huntress heard approaching hoofsteps. She was reluctant to tear her gaze from the sight in front of her though, and simply settled to allow for silence unless the newcomer felt the need to speak. As the newcomer spoke, Huntress flicked an ear toward them, watching as sparrows flocked and performed intricate manouvers in the sky above, unburdened by the drama of terrestrial life. She watched the birds wistfully, almost missing the question posed by the mare that had joined her. Hestia's words hung in the air for a moment before she was able to form words of her reply.
Huntress finally turned toward the perlino and nodded her head a little in greeting, "Well met, Hestia, I'm Huntress... And not too long, I got here just as the sun began to set. It is... breathtaking, I would say. Such beauty created from nothing." She spoke softly, unwilling to break the peace that had settled over the mountain. As a foal she would have been bursting at the seams with questions and wonder founded from the view but experiences had soured her eagerness and now she found herself content with the quiet. Reflecting on herself for a moment, the dunalino mustang realised she was sinking back into her shell and most likely being a bit cold with Hestia.
Furrowing her brow a little, Huntress took a step back from the mountain edge and turned a little so she faced the perlino a little more. After all, if she wanted adventure, why not start now, with getting out of her comfort zone and converse with a stranger. She'd already done it once, after all, and that had ended well enough. Steeling herself, Huntress forced a small smile, "So what brings you here, Hestia?" Her words felt slightly forced, and it was quite a basic question, but for the moment she was coming up empty with conversation starters. Huntress just hoped that starting conversations and talking to others would become easier in time.

"If it scares you, it might be a good thing to try." Hestia held her breath as she beheld the sky, the vast expanse that was alight in various shades of fire. It was a gorgeous sight, seeing the sun slowly dip down towards the horizon line. In all her years, she has always been down in the flatlands—this was her first time up so high in altitude, and all that hard work climbing up was well worth it. Not only could she see the heavens in all its glory, unblocked by trees and other tall things, she could also behold those same trees from a bird's eye view. "Huntress? Nice to meet you!" The young mare turned her head back to the equine. A slight evening breeze blew, ruffling the youngster's pale banners. She was in high spirits now, as she was extremely happy with her accomplishment for the day. "Yes, it's so cool!" Though she was indeed a young mare, her years of seclusion from her home herd had caused this equine to keep the youthful and energetic spirit of a filly. In a way, it could pass off as immature and unfitting for her age. But then again, her innocence was something that made her so endearing. At least, that was what she had been told. "Huh? Beauty created from nothing? What do you mean by that?" After Hestia's recent interaction with an elderly philosopher, she had been probing more and more into the deeper things of life and nature. Her active imagination knew no bounds, and could now be at risk of offending the older female with her insistent questions. "Why am I here?" Hestia has not noticed much of the other's coldness, if there were any at all. Her energy was enough to cover for the both of them. "Never been here before, so I thought I'd try climbing this mountain and see what it's like! That's all!" She shrugged carelessly, and a smile broke out on her maw. "So this is what birds must feel like, right? Being able to fly and see things like this all the time..." She sighed, a little wistfully. "What if you had wings? Where would you go?" It was much too easy for her to get caught up in her own world, and always took others to keep her grounded to reality. "So why are you here? Is this your first time? Or have you been here lots of times already?" IF anything, Hestia was a noisy little gal, though she did not mean to be. It was just her curiosity and her outgoing behavior that resulted in such a chatty character. WORDS: 432 | TAG: Harlequin | MUSIC: x NOTES: I'm afraid she's gonna be a lil noisy haha Kagney @ Adox

Huntress
The question from Hestia caught her off guard a little, she hadn't really expected her statement to cause such a question. Huntress frowned for a moment, thinking over her response before she spoke again, "Well have you ever seen a desert or deadlands? You know, a place that's just sand and rocks and dirt, it's usually quite hot so nothing can grow. I was told as a foal that all lands started out like that and grew and flourished into what we see now. Except, possibly this mountain... I think it's been here for a long time." The dunalino mustang flushed a little at the end, obviously the mountain had been here for a long time. She berated herself a little before returning her attention to her companion.
She listened to Hestia's ramblings intently, a small smile appearing at the mare's seemingly boundless energy, "I should think so, being able to see everything any time you wanted..." She replied quietly before ruminating over the odd question the perlino had posed. "I can't say I've ever thought about it, really... I think I'd want to see everything if I could. I'd like to see the ends of these lands, and what lies beyond them..." Huntress replied truthfully, eyes now trained curiously on the horizon. "It would take a long time though," She paused, glancing back to Hestia and adding, "How about you, Hestia? Where would you go?"
"Oh, this is my first time here, I've not been in these lands long to be honest. It's all very new to me, the only other place I've been so far has been down by the river bend, where those willow trees are." She edged closer to Hestia as she spoke, motioning with her nose toward the distant grouping of willows that crowded part of the river bend. "I, um, decided a bit of adventure might be good for me, and this peak... well it peaked my interest." She grinned a little at the pun she made, glancing sheepishly toward the other mare, hoping that she also found it funny.

"If it scares you, it might be a good thing to try." "Ooo, really?" The perlino mare cocked her head in wonderment at the mare's words. That had sounded plausible, and she nodded in agreement. "That makes sense. Still though, the desert would need lots of water for it to become as green as the forests here." Her eyes closed halfway as she struggled to comprehend something she knew only a little about. Hearing how the older mare shared her views, a big grin slid across her maw. That is, as only equines could. "Right? Right? Wouldn't that be awesome if we could fly?" Youthful eyes scanned the horizon, almost as if she could see what Huntress was envisioning. "That would be really cool, to keep flying and going on and on..." A brief pause. "But do you think there's an end? Because once we reach the edge, then what happens? Another horizon? An ocean?" She could only speculate, but as she thought out loud, ideas formed in her mind. "True, true, it would take a while." She agreed. "Hmm, where would I like to go?" Hestia let a breath. "That's a good question. Maybe the same as you? I wanna see what lies beyond the setting sun..." Her words drifted away as she sank deep into thought. For a few moments, it was oddly quiet and peaceful, the first break since she made her entrance. The quiet was broken by the dunlino mustang as she explained why she was there. The young mare also chortled at the pun she heard. "That's a good one! And really? Me, too!" She exclaimed. "Adventure is why I'm here, too!" It seemed like the other mare had said the magic word. If it was at all possible, Hestia was alight with energy, like she had just found her new adventure buddy. "Say, where else have you been? My goal is to travel through all this surrounding area, and there are many places I haven't been to, yet." She turned towards her companion, eyes alight with energy. "Any cool places you've been that are worth visiting?" WORDS: 340 | TAG: Harlequin | MUSIC: x NOTES: Aww her puns ^^ Kagney @ Adox

Huntress
Huntress laughed a little at Hestia's antics, "Well there's always an end to everything, so I'd assume there is an end to these lands. Most likely an ocean and then new lands beyond them, but I'm just guessing!" She grinned a little, eyes dancing in amusement as she watched the perlino mare ponder the concept of new lands beyond these. She then turned her gaze back to the setting sun, keeping an ear turned in Hestia's direction as she rambled on. Her grin broadened as she made her companion laugh, it allowed her to relax a little more, less afraid of making a verbal misstep and offending the other mare now that she had made her laugh.
She mused over Hestia's question and shook her head a little, "As I said, only to the willows by the bend in the river," She paused, thinking as to if she would go back or not. "It's a nice place, not particularly exciting but it's peaceful. Definitely a good place to rest if you don't have anywhere else. When I was there I met a mare called Carrot and she told me this story, about wolves and horses, and the Great Spirits..." She trailed off, trying to remember the story but the details escaped her, "I can't remember the whole thing, but it was really good, but maybe that was because she was a good story-teller." She hummed a little, considering where they could go from here. It was then that she realised that she would enjoy travelling with Hestia, the mare's energy was rubbing off on her.
Huntress glanced over the lands below them, looking over their potential options, "How about you? Been anywhere exciting so far?" She asked curiously, glancing back to her companion before following up with a further question. "Where would you want to go next? If you could pick anywhere..." The dunalino mustang allowed her gaze to survey the lands before locking onto the ocean in the distance, perhaps that would be an interesting change of scenery, she'd never been remotely close to an ocean before, she'd only heard things from her parents and other adults in her homelands.

"If it scares you, it might be a good thing to try." "Oooh, I know the willow place you're talking about!" Her energetic head bobbing was in danger of causing some slight disturbances in the air. "Like you said, it's really nice and calm there. A bit too calm for me, though!" She admitted honestly. Sometimes her frankness rubbed others the wrong way, but she could not help it—she said things as they are. No more, no less. "I like going to places with more risks and adventure! The scary places are my favorite," her voice dropped down an octave, like she was confiding in the other mare and did not want anyone else to hear, "Have you been to the canyon? The one by the desert? It has so many cool caves and tunnels! I haven't gone through all of them yet, but many of them have dead ends. But I'm sure one of them will eventually lead to the other side of the canyon." She finished off, confidence and triumph in her tone and stance. It never did occur to her young mind that she could get hurt or in trouble...or get lost. Those things have never happened to her before, and thus did not exist in her mind. Not yet, at least. Hence, she was bold, bold to the point of defying fate though she herself did not consciously know that she was doing so. She had been so caught up in her own explanations, she almost missed out what her new friend was saying. "Ooo, that Carrot sounds really interesting! You met at her at willow-stream place? You think she is there around the area or nah?" Her ears had also perked up at the words 'Great Spirits.' "That sounds a lot like my friend Auby! He was the one who brought me to this really cool spot in the canyon and told me about the spirits! I wonder if they're both talking about the same thing?" It struck her as interesting, that two older equines would talk about similar topics. "Or maybe they just talk about it because they're old." There was no vice or negativity in Hestia's attitude—she was just wondering out loud, and did not mean any harm, if any. "Where I'd go next?" A mischievous smile lit up the perlino face. "Well, I used to only explore the flatlands and caves and tunnels, and today this mountain," she nodded briefly to the side, "So I think the next thing to do is to visit the ocean!" She had also never been to any large water source. Sure, there were streams and rivers everywhere, but the ocean would be another matter. Huntress
The dunalino mare couldn't suppress the smile that Hestia's antics brought to her face. It had been a long time since she had felt enthusiasm like this. "I get that. It was a good place for a snooze though." She replied, before tilting her head in curiosity as her new friend described her most recent visit to the canyon. At the perlino's words, a shudder rolled over Huntress, "Caves? Urgh, I don't know about that, I'm not one for enclosed spaces, or dark spaces for that matter." She grimaced at the thought, but soon recovered from the shiver of fear that had flooded her body. "I suppose one or two of the tunnels probably do lead straight through the canyon from one side to the other. I'll leave that kind of exploring to you though." She teased the other mare a little, comfortable in her cowardice so she didn't bother to entertain the thought of exploring the dark tunnels and caves in any canyon.
Huntress' ears perks forward a little and she mulled over Hestia's questions about Carrot, "I don't think she's in the willows any more, we parted ways this morning. But I suppose she probably hasn't gone too far, she said something about destinies or fates. I'm not sure." She lifted one golden shoulder in a half shrug before smirking at the perlino's theory. "Perhaps they do, I reckon by the time you reach old age you have an awful lot of stories. My parents and uncles and aunts all told lots of stories when I was a foal. I'd guess there are only so many variations on the same legends, so they probably are talking about the same kind of thing." Huntress mused over the thought of her elders and all the stories she'd been told as a foal and yearling.
She was pulled from her thoughts once more at Hestia's answer to her previous question, at the suggestion of the ocean, Huntress laughed a little. "Are you psychic, by any chance? I was just thinking the same thing!" She shook her head in amusement and shifted to really peer toward the ocean in the distance. "Can I swim? Oh, yeah! I loved wading in the lake in my homelands, I was always the first one in and last one out." Huntress puffed out her chest a little in pride at that statement. Whilst she'd never swam in any kind of current, she had enjoyed wading and swimming until she had left her homelands, and it was definitely one of the things she missed most about her old life. "How about you, Hestia? Can you swim?" Huntress emphasised the you as a teasing challenge, her soft brown eyes glittering with a little mischief and cockiness. She'd never really had any good girl friends back home, especially not any that had been so adventurous and confident as Hestia. She was excited to see where their travels would take them, and what trouble they could get into.

"If it scares you, it might be a good thing to try." The perlino's eyes were alight as she conversed with the other mare. "That's fine! Just leave it to me!" She said confidently, sticking her chest out proudly. "I can show you the way when I do find it!" Failure was not an option—she would try and try again until she found her goal. Or until she got lost. "Ooo stories?" If there was something Hesita loved more than adventuring and exploring new place, it was stories. "I love stories! Especially about the olden days! Makes me feel more connected to the place, you know?" She did a little dance in place. "Do you have any stories you can tell me? Pleaseeee?" Her youthful eyes begged earnestly. Whether Huntress obliged or not was up to her, but she would be satisfied with even a made-up yarn. At the older mare's mention of the ocean and her foalhood, Hestia leaned forward, drinking in every word. "So you're experienced with swimming then!" Then, when Huntress posed her challenge, she laughed. "Of course I don't! That's why I asked! Say, can you teach me how to swim?" Truly, this spirited girl knew no bounds when it came to social interactions; one simply did not ask others to do things for them right out of the blue. Not unless they were Hestia, that is. "I mean, I know how to wade a little, but I've never been in the deeper areas." She admitted honestly. "Can you? Please?"WORDS: 242 | TAG: Harlequin | MUSIC: x NOTES: Apologies for the short reply! ^^; Kagney @ Adox

Huntress
The golden mare hesitated at Hestia's words, she couldn't remember a lot of the tales very clearly, and was reluctant to try her hoof at story-telling, especially where she had to embellish a story. But at the perlino's excited begging, Huntress felt herself give a little, she couldn't resist the smile that the other mare brought to her face. "Alright, alright," She conceeded, bobbing her head a little, "I probably have a few I can share with you on the journey to the ocean. Have you ever heard of how horses came from the sea?" It was an old legend she had heard once as a foal, and it was completely unbelievable but it did make for a good story.
Huntress nodded her honey-coloured head with a smile, "Oh definitely! And of course I can! My parents used to get fed up of me teaching the others to swim, mainly because they could never get us out of the water when it got dark!" She laughed a little at the memories of chasing around her siblings, cousins and friends in the lake. It had always been fun, especially on a hot summer day. "Okay, so swimming is kinda like walking or trotting in water. The main thing you have to remember is to always keep moving and keep your head above the water. You don't want to breathe it in, it hurts when it goes up your nose." Huntress grimaced at thought of water up her nose, it had always made her sneeze and her eyes water. "The technique is that you kinda have to kick with every step that you take. Like you fling your legs out and down. Kind of like this." She paused, lifting her left foreleg, striking out and almost doing a digging motion with an exaggerated scooping motion.
She then realised she looked a bit like an idiot and flushed, ducking her head in embarrassment. "Well, it looks better in water." She laughed a little, trying to ease her embarrassment. "Anyway, maybe we should get going toward the ocean and I can tell that story on the way? And then when we get there I can teach you how to swim?" Huntress suggested shyly, she didn't want her new friend feeling as though she was bossing her about, but she was aware that the light was starting to really fade and the temperature was dropping.

"If it scares you, it might be a good thing to try." Hestia's eyes lit up when the mare gave her a teaser. "Horses came from the sea? Really?" Then she grew thoughtful. "I remember my nanny hated swimming. Said it was dangerous and that I shouldn't go near the ocean. But then, we all have to drink water anyways, and I always wanted to go see it..." Here she grew a little dreamy, thinking of whatever idea she had of the ocean. Whether her musings were correct or not, she would eventually discover, but for now, her dreams were being encouraged and supported. Then Huntress was describing how to swim. "That sounds so fun!" She took in every word like a thirsty plant, soaking up all the knowledge that she could get. "Yea, it always hurts when I drink too fast and some of the water gets in my nose." She wrinkled her nose, puffing out displeasure at the irritating thought. "Hmm, so just trot in water. Like this?" She tried to copy the other mare's action, though hers looked even more jerky and awkward, limbs flying in all kinds of weird directions and positions. "Got it!" She beamed confidently, not knowing that swimming was not just that. However, she would find that out later. She also did not notice Huntress' discomfort—not that she was bothered by the funny actions. Hers had looked just as strange and dumb, after all. "Right now? Yes!" Her pale legs pranced up and down. The young femme immediately turned and started heading down the mountain path. The sun was slowly starting its decent down to the horizon line, and the air was getting chillier, but she felt none of that. All she had in mind was to get to the bottom of the mountain, find the ocean, and learn how to swim from Huntress! Assuming the mare was right beside her in their way down, Hestia turned to her. "So, how did horses come from the sea?"WORDS: 322 | TAG: Harlequin | MUSIC: x NOTES: Were you thinking of continuing the ocean trip here or in a new thread? ^^ Kagney @ Adox [googlefont=Shadows Into Light Two]
